To run this utility on windows, you need to run command prompt with administrative privileges. Press Start button and from right side click on search button and type “cmd”. Then right click on command prompt and select run as administrator.

Step – 2 

When you have the command prompt open, run the following commands

SFC [/SCANNOW] [/VERIFYONLY] [/SCANFILE=<file>] [/VERIFYFILE=<file>]
[/OFFWINDIR=<offline windows directory> /OFFBOOTDIR=<offline boot directory>]

sfc /scannow

This is a useful command to scan the whole system for possible errors and on the other hand this option is much more fast.

You can also scan and verify the particular file using the following command

/scanfile=<file> or /verifyfile=<file>

sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll\
